Research and Development of First and Second Generation Motorized Ground Switches

It has to withstand the effects of electrical and thermal stresses of the main circuit in the non-operating state, as well as to ensure that the equipment and loads are not subjected to secondary damage in the fault state.

  1. Use of traditional grounding switches

Conventional earthing switches are used to close the earthing switch in manual mode. Manual mode means that the disconnecting earthing switch completes its switching action by manual operation. The manual mode is suitable for applications with few ground faults at high voltages, and is simple, safe and reliable. The principle of operation is to realize the switching action by manually operating the switch handle.

In the process of operation, it should not only ensure the precise positioning, but also ensure the smooth operation of the mechanical mechanism; it should be able to safely withstand the impact of the electrical energy that may be generated at the load side, but also ensure the safe isolation of the electrical energy of the main circuit from the load circuit. Finally, in the manual operation state, it should be light and labor-saving.

  1. A generation of electric grounding switch:

In accordance with the design and application standards of traditional grounding switches, our electric grounding switches are designed to be simple, compact and lightweight, with both a remote-controlled controller and a traditional manual-priority operation mode (to prevent remote operation due to malfunction). Moreover, the remote control controller can be programmed to match the product to the automatic control mode. Since the grounding switch is mainly operated electrically, we have designed a new interlocking device that maintains the original operation mode and is compatible with the electric operation mode. The development of this electric grounding switch enables the substation distribution unit to realize an unattended and intelligent substation solution.

The motorized earthing switch can be divided into automatic and remote control modes to operate the closing circuit.

Automatic means that the isolated earthing switch automatically realizes the switching action by detecting the grid fault signal. The automatic mode is suitable for occasions where there are more ground faults at high voltages, and is easy to operate, fast and highly reliable. Its working principle is to monitor the grid fault through the electronic circuit, and when the fault signal reaches the set value, the grounding switch is automatically disconnected.

Remote control mode means that the isolated earthing switch realizes the switching action through remote control signals, which is suitable for power distribution systems under high voltage, with the advantages of convenient operation, fast speed and high reliability. Its working principle is to control the grounding switch through additional remote control circuit, which can remotely complete the switching operation and realize the removal of power grid fault.

  1. Second generation of new electric grounding switch control device:

In order to facilitate the trend of motorization of grounding switches, our company communicates through the Southern Power Grid and designs a device with a motorized control interlocking device. The control unit on the interlocking device realizes the function of remote control and remote control to operate the corresponding interlocking device.

The design is based on the observation that the corresponding interlocking device changes during the closing process of the previous generation of electrically operated earthing switches:

The previous generation of electrically operated earthing switches was realized by designing motors and remote control units at the moving gate of the earth switch opening and closing to electrically control the earthing switch and drive the corresponding interlocking device in the switchgear cabinet during operation. However, because the motorized earth switch used must be able to have both the corresponding dielectric properties, but also must meet the operating mode.

The second-generation motorized earthing switch uses a control unit that directly operates the matching interlocking device and drives the earthing switch through the positional change of the interlocking device to realize the remote operation of the opening and closing of the circuit breaker. In this way, only the purchase of the corresponding motorized device and interlocking device can be used for the application of grounding switch products, which can provide a more convenient solution for some renovation projects.
